2 pm Matinee on Saturday. Since its opening in May 1960, The Fantasticks has become the longest running production of any kind in the history of American theatre, charming audiences ever since Dwight Eisenhower was president. Each generation from bobby-soxers to flower children to baby boomers to cyberkids have embraced the universality of the show. The story radiates a timeless sweetness: the starry-eyed boy and girl next door fall in love, explore the dangerous attractions of the world outside, and then opt instead for fulfillment of each other’s arms and in hearth and home. Alan Cubit and Emma Mohrman star as the boy and girl. The ensemble that creates the rest of the magic includes Stephen Laurie, Alan Franklin, Mark Rumery, John Young, Molly Desormeaux and introducing Chris Sellers as El Gallo.
