When asked to what she owes her success, Vermont's own Olympic Gold Medal Winner Hannah Teter said, "It's the syrup baby!" We couldn't agree more.

You, too, can enjoy the sweet life in the Northeast Kingdom with a visit to Maple Grove Farm. Tour the world's largest producer of pure maple candy and maple syrup. See our famous dressings being made. Watch a color video and tour the Maple Grove Sugar House Museum. Bring home your own gold, Grade A Vermont Gold Syrup, that is, at factory prices in the large gift shop.

Make a splash at the Indoor Recreation of Orleans County (IROC) with thier cork screw water slide at the recreation pool. Work up a sweat in the state-of-the-art facility that offers treadmills, elliptical gliders, recumbent bikes, an upright bike, a stair stepper, and a Concept II rowing machine. The Fitness Center also includes 16 strength training machines, and there is an entire section of free weights as well. Aerobics, yoga, pilates, kick-boxing, and spinning classes are offered.

The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, a National Historic Landmark, has served as a center of culture and learning for 130 years. This free public library and art gallery is home to a permanent collection of 19th-century paintings including Albert Bierstadt's majestic Domes of the Yosemite. All are originals except for 15 copies of masterpieces by Van Dyck, Raphael, Dolci, Murillo, Rembrandt, Veronese, Bonheur, Fra Angelico, and Del Sarto. Poetry readings. Gifts for sale.
